Word on the Street: Two stay-at-home moms start design business

Our Word on the Street column in Monday’s paper focused on a pair of stay-at-home soccer moms in Fresno who decided to take their love of interior home design to the next level by starting their own business: New Vision.
The moms, Veronica Mechem and Amber Gorman, are not certified home stagers but hope their work will speak for itself. Mechem helped Gorman redesign her home and together the moms have renovated rooms for family and friends.
They specialize in decluttering, reorganizing, painting and transforming rooms for homeowners who are selling their houses and for those who just want a new look. The pair work in the Fresno and Madera areas.
I asked Gorman if this is a good time to be starting a business since so few homeowners are selling because they are either underwater – owing more on their mortgage than the house is worth – or waiting for home prices to rise.
Her answer: “There are empty homes that sell faster when furnished and staged properly. People don’t realize how hard it is to sell their home when it’s cluttered. We go in and declutter and make it flow better.”
I got a lot of calls from folks who want to contact Mechem and Gorman. Here’s a link to their website.
